Amazing Animal Projects / Presentations
We have been learning all about Animals from Around the World in First and Second Class. Each child has their own ‘Animals Around the World’ Project Book, where they draw pictures and write about the different animals we are learning about, each week. We examine powerpoints and video clips about the animals, discuss what we have learned and then record what we have learned about the animals in our projects. So far, we have learned about many animals from around the world including, brown bears, red eyed tree frogs, squirrel monkeys and toucans.
For homework last night, the pupils completed a one page project on an animal of their choice. They completed wonderful projects and each child had the opportunity to present their project to the class, today. We all learned some very interesting animals facts from listening to each other! 🙂
Spider Webs
Our First and Second Class Pupils painted some very bright and colourful Spider Webs for Art Class, this week. Some pupils even mixed their paint colours up a bit to create some new interesting colours – very creative! Each pupil cut out a scary spider to stick onto their web when the paint had dried! They look great!! 🙂
Maths Dice Game
Subtraction is new to First Class this year and they are doing so well with it! We played a Dice Game, in pairs, during Maths class this week to develop our understanding of this new concept. This game has definitely helped us to get the hang of Subtraction!
Mindfulness Mondays
We have Mindfulness Monday, every Monday in first and second class. We enjoy this time every week, as it is a quiet, relaxing time for us to take a break and focus on our breathing. We all close our eyes, sit still and listen to calm, mindful instructions. We sometimes have to use our imaginations while listening to the instructions. We use our senses and focus on what we can see, hear, feel and smell in the present moment. We concentrate on taking deep breaths, holding our breaths and releasing them slowly. It is important to take the time to be mindful!
After our breathing exercise during Mindfulness Monday today, we did some mindful colouring. We listened quietly to relaxing music as we coloured in mindfulness patterns which contained inspirational quotes. At the end of the lesson we read out and talked about the meanings of the inspirational quotes. We discussed how they can relate to our lives and inspire us! 🙂
Picasso Heads :-)
For Art last week, first and second class painted Picasso Heads. We examined some of the work by the late Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, for inspiration. We learned all about Picasso and watched a short video clip telling us about his life.
Picasso was born in 1881 in the city of Malaga, Spain. We learned that Picasso completed his first painting when he was only nine years old.  Picasso was a co-founder in the movement known as Cubism. His full name is twenty three words long! Picasso’s first word was “lapiz,” the Spanish word for pencil.
We had fun learning about Picasso and drawing and painting our own Picasso Heads! 🙂
Tennis Workshop
First and Second Class have been really enjoying the tennis lessons, so far. We can see great improvements in our tennis skills already! 🙂
Autumn Owls :-)
Our First and Second Class Pupils created some fantastic Autumn Owls, using chalk pastels, in their art lesson last week. Ms. Wakefield was so impressed with how they turned out! 🙂
Science – All about Light!
Our first two Science lessons, in First and Second class have been all about light! In our first lesson, we had a big discussion about light, the different types of light, where light comes from, etc. We completed concept maps all about light, in pairs. We learned how to make a rainbow using a torch, a container with some water in it, a mirror and a sheet of white card.

Last week we made Rainbow Spinners to show how white light is made up of all the colours of the rainbow. We had fun discussing the colours we thought light contained. We then made rainbow spinners to investigate it. While spinning the rainbow spinners really fast we could see that all of the colours blend together to make white. This worked really well for everyone! 🙂
Outdoor Classroom – Scavenger Hunt
Last week, first and second class had great fun completing a scavenger hunt, in our wonderful outdoor classroom.
