In the style of German Artist “August Mache “
Third and Fourth Class painted the most amazing art this week. They were studying the German artist August Macke(1887-1914) and were particularly impressed with his painting “Turkish Cafe II”.
Here are their paintings which Mrs. Wallace thinks are amazing!
August Macke was one of the leading members of the German Expressionist Group” The Blue Rider.” He died at the age of 27 years in 1914.
Turkish Cafe was actually created in the year that he died, 1914.

Cookery Class-Our Gingerbread Houses

Assembling and decorating our very own gingerbread houses was a great treat during this week’s cookery class. There were three groups of girls working on the project! Everyone had tremendous fun and we all laughed lots! We definitely learned lots about cake decorating. We also learned that if you “huffed and puffed” you could blow some of the houses down! Not Fourth Class house though! It was built very securely. We all feasted on the creations later in the afternoon!
Heart-shaped Wreaths

This was a fun-filled
Art Class! Did you ever think that you could make pretty heart-shaped wreaths by using dyed coffee filters?Lots of preparation was needed for this Art class but it was certainly worth it. The finished product is amazing.Teacher was absolutely thrilled with how well the wreaths turned out. Well done,3rd and 4th !

Kermit went to Dubai
Kermit went on a trip to Dubai recently. Dubai is in the United Arab Emirates. It took around 7 hours on the plane to get there. It is very hot in Dubai all year round and it hardly ever rains. Kermit visited The Burj Khalifa, which is the tallest building in the world. He even went all the way to the top! Kermit went to the desert and had his first ever camel ride, which was very exciting. Kermit went on a tram out to see the Atlantis Hotel on Palm Island and visited many fancy buildings.
The Senior Infants Pupils are excited about bringing Kermit home again with his new diary. Kermit loves visiting the pupils’ homes and getting up to all sorts of fun activities. 🙂
Have a look at some of Kermit’s holiday photos…
Word-Building Skills
Our Senior Infant Pupils have been very busy during English class. We have been playing games to work on our word-building and phonic skills. We have also been revising all our new sounds, as well as blending and segmenting. Excellent work, everyone! 🙂
Dice Addition Game
The Senior Infant Pupils had fun playing a Dice Addition Game during Maths class today. Each pair had a dice, a dice addition card and a marker. In pairs, the pupils took turns to roll the dice to make their own sums and they worked out the answers together. At the end, we wiped off all the sums. We’ll play this game again soon!
Arctic Animals
Our Senior Infants have been learning all about The Arctic and Arctic Animals during English class. They completed a paired writing activity yesterday, where they wrote down all the facts they have learned about Arctic Animals including polar bears, arctic foxes, snowy owls, walruses and caribou. Ms. Wakefield was very impressed with all the facts they remembered! 🙂
