A busy December in the Infant Room
As the term draws to a close we’d like to share some of the wonderful things we got up to in December.
We were very busy with our Christmas art of course. We made a class Christmas Tree, crepe paper pictures and decorations for our Christmas trees at home.
We were also busy baking. We made star shaped shortbread biscuits decorated with icing and sprinkles. They were so tempting we ate them after lunch, and they were really yummy. We are looking forward to baking again in the New Year.
We really enjoyed our performance of Hosanna Rock. After our performance for our family and friends on Sunday evening we performed again on Monday for Scoil Mhuire and on Tuesday for Dove House.
We had great fun in our Lego workshop when we
made spinning tops.
We were amazed at the Science Show on Monday. We were shown many cool tricks, some of which we can re-create at home such as dancing maltesers and muscial straws!
So now we are all looking forward to Christmas.
Mrs Bergin, Ms Lynam and Mrs O’Shaughnessy would like to wish you all a great Christmas and a wonderful year in 2016. Enjoy the holidays.
Our Christmas Party
Thank you to Sixth Class parents for helping to set up the Christmas Party food on Tuesday 22nd December. We had a great time with our friends.
Our Christingles
Christingle means ” Light of Christ”. Lots of churches hold Christingle Services around Christmas time. The custom of giving out lighted candles in these services began in Germany in 1747 . Christingles are made up of different parts, each one being there to remind us of something.
The orange represents the world.
The candle reminds us of Jesus being the light of Christ.
The red ribbon reminds us that Jesus died.
The four cocktail sticks represent the four seasons or the four corners of the world.
The sweets or dried fruit represent God’s gifts to the world.
First and Second Class loved making the Christingles and then they sang the Christingle Song. Teacher lit each candle
and everyone sang the song. When we were outside ,the wind blew lots of the candles out! Then we came indoors which was much better. Each candle was standing in some tinfoil in order to catch the melted wax so that it would not burn us.
Teacher told us to be ever so careful with the lighted candle. We will always remember our Christingle Song and the true meaning of Christmas.
