Teacher is busy cutting the rolls of paper and we are busy folding and following the pattern and then of course decorating our masterpieces.
Avril’s Surprise!
The cutest hedgehog paid us a visit this week. James’s Mum rescued her from a busy roadway on her way to the school and of course Avril, who works in the school office, took a shine to her. She arrived at our patio door with the little bundle and our Maths class became so much more interesting!
Leek and Courgette Flan
Our last trip to the school kitchen involved making a delicious Leek and Courgette Flan.Third and Fourth Class pupils devoured it!It is so easy to make and so nutritious too.

Mrs. Wallace was delighted!
Colourful Pom Poms
More colourful pom poms by Third and Fourth Class pupils! We worked very hard to complete these. Lots of wrapping wool around two cardboard circles and lots of tying of wool too. We had great fun choosing materials to decorate our creation.
Happy Art Class!
Science experiments – Heat transfer
Fifth and Sixth class pupils are currently studying how heat is transferred from one place to another by three methods: conduction in solids, convection of fluids (liquids or gases) and radiation.
We completed two experiments. The first one was to help us understand what convection is all about and in the second one we tested the process of conduction and we melted some chocolate on the end of a nail.
Some experiments can be messy, but we love that and Mrs. Mythen does too!
Styrofoam Sculptures
Fifth and sixth class pupils have now completed a second sculpture. There was fabulous enthusiasm from all pupils during this class. Pupils also learned lots about the American sculptor Tara Donovan.
Cool Coconut Cupcakes
Fifth and Sixth Class pupils made and iced really tasty coconut cupcakes this week. Each group worked extremely well together. Super – teamwork!
Save our Pollinators
As part of Creative Ireland Programme in Laois, Third and Fourth Class pupils have been busy writing poems themed on pollinators. We have learnt lots about the importance of pollinators by studying and discussing the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan. We found lots of information by visiting www.biodiversityireland.ie
Did you know that most pollination in Ireland is carried out by bees? Unfortunately, pollinators are in trouble. We learned that one third of Irish bee species are threatened with extinction.
We really want to help pollinators by planting pollinator-friendly flowers and by planting fruit and vegetables for the pollinators too.
